Oswestry man, Simon Evans has announced that after 23 years of being a Firefighter at Oswestry Fire Station, he has decided to retire from the service.

Between Simon and his two uncles Tony and Mike (previously retired), they have served a total of 72 years.

Mr Evans said: “In my time I have worked with some incredible people who are not just friends and colleagues but family to me”.

“I am proud to have served and helped protect our community for so long”.

“This has to be one of the hardest but most rewarding jobs around, but without the support of my wife Lisa, and sons Kieran and Tom it would not have happened.”.

Colleague and friend Andy Neeves said: “Simon has given so much time and commitment protecting our community for many years, I wish him well in his retirement.  He will be greatly missed”.
