With Love From… a sustainable fashion project based in Oswestry is challenging local students to become sustainable stylists, designers and models. Students, who might be attending a prom in the next 12 – 18 months, need to find or make a planet friendly prom outfit and register on the With Love From… website by 10th April. Entries will be showcased as part of the project’s Prom Reimagined event next month.
Prom Reimagined (Wednesday 24th April, 7:00pm – 9:00pm) aims to showcase ideas and outfits to make your prom more planet friendly. The event is part of a series of displays, workshops and events co-ordinated by With Love From… all highlighting how people can make more conscious fashion choices and supporting the global campaign Fashion Revolution Week (15th – 24th April 2024).
With Love From… which is on a mission to reduce the environmental and ethical impact of fashion through the promotion of better choices, has been working with schools and colleges to bring these messages to local students who are soon to be attending a prom.
The project is challenging local students to get together with friends and become sustainable stylists, designers and models to find or make a prom outfit from sustainable sources (vintage, second-hand, borrowed, recycled, repurposed or the With Love From… shared wardrobe etc). To enter, students simply need to organise their outfit and register on the With Love From… website by Wednesday 10th April.
At the event on 24th April, guests can expect:
- An interactive catwalk featuring sustainable, conscientious outfits, all modelled, styled and/or designed by local students
- Sustainable fashion talks/discussions with students
- Exhibition featuring local businesses providing ‘planet conscious’ prom options
- A chance to browse and shop the shared wardrobe of 500+ beautiful items
- Donate items to the shared wardrobe (and start collecting points)
- Speak to experts about re-imagining your potential prom outfits
With Love From… launched last April, as a shared wardrobe project in Oswestry, Shropshire. Over the past year, it has grown into a collective movement of 70+ shoppers/sharers, 30+ volunteers, keeping 500+ wardrobe items in circulation and preventing hundreds of garments from reaching landfill. This year, the project is working with businesses, schools, colleges, community groups and individuals across the town to support Fashion Revolution and help to raise awareness for the challenges caused by the current fashion system.
Fashion Revolution, is a non-profit organisation that brings together a global movement of people campaigning for a fairer fashion industry, that values people and the planet over profit. It was founded by Carry Somers and Orsola de Castro in the wake of the Rana Plaza disaster, eleven years ago.
Every year, Fashion Revolution hosts a week-long, international campaign calling for a fair, safe, transparent and accountable fashion industry. This year Fashion Revolution Week marks 10 years of Fashion Revolution with ten days of activism from Monday 15th until Wednesday 24th April.
Lizzie Dibble, founder at With Love From… said; “Our original vision for this project was to create a shared wardrobe of occasion-wear, for a community of conscientious shoppers. Over the past year With Love From… has grown into something so much more than the shared wardrobe. We are on a mission to reduce the environmental and ethical impact of fashion through the promotion of better choices, and With Love From… is already having an effect on shopping behaviours, influencing people in and around the town to have a greater respect for the clothing that already exists and slow down the fashion lifecycle.
“Fashion Revolution is an incredible organisation which campaigns for a global fashion industry that conserves and restores the environment and values people before growth and profit. We are very proud to be bringing their campaign to Oswestry and raising awareness for these serious issues.”
