A local woman is celebrating her love for her childhood food by hosting an excitingly authentic Middle Eastern Feast in Oswestry on March 10th.

Simi Epstein, who has lived in Whittington for ten years, grew up eating delicious dishes such as Ras-el Hanout chicken and Persian rice cooked by her Israeli mum.

Simi loves to cook her traditional family dishes for friends, but decided to branch out and try a Pop Up Middle Eastern Feast in Shrewsbury at the end of last year. It was a sell-out success, which has prompted Simi to arrange another Pop Up Feast at Carriages Restaurant in Oswestry next month.

“I grew up eating Middle Eastern food because my mum’s family are from Israel, but when I moved to the area it wasn’t available anywhere near here so I realised I was going to have to learn how to cook it myself,” says Simi.

“Over the last 10 years I have spent hours, sometimes even days preparing and perfecting dishes full of flavour from all over the Middle East including peeling every chickpea that goes into the Israeli Hummus which has become a firm favourite with those who have attended the feasts before.

“Shropshire has many good places to eat and drink and people from around here are definitely foodies who love to try new things so I can’t wait to share my Middle Eastern Feast with my guests.

“In true feast style there will be one sitting which will begin at 7.30pm. A delicious selection of hot and cold starters & main courses followed by dessert will be brought to every table for guests to help themselves. Middle Eastern food is also very adaptable for vegetarians.”

Included on the menu will be traditional dishes including Spicy Chicken Wings from Palestine, Persian Onion, butter and pine nut rice and the smoothest hummus from Israel drizzled with olive oil, parsley, pine nuts and a touch of paprika.

Mike and Nikki Lavin, Owners of Carriages, are delighted that their restaurant is to provide the stage for Simi’s Pop-Up Middle Eastern Feast.

“We had just returned from a holiday in Egypt when Simi came to see us. We were so excited that she was serving the food we love to eat at Carriages. We are delighted to be a part of bringing this wonderful cuisine to Oswestry,” they added.

The event is ticket only and is selling out fast! Tickets are £25 per person and must be paid for at the time of booking by calling Nikki or Mike at Carriages on 01691 652521. Carriages is licensed so guests will be able to purchase alcohol and soft drinks on thenight.
