Residents of all ages are encouraged to use new style Tanat Valley Buses free of charge on the Saturday Town Services.
Chris Chadd, Managing Director of Tanat Valley Coaches said: “our mini-buses are easy to use, super clean and kitted out with all the modern-day mod coms including Ipod docking stations, providing a friendly and easy journey in and around town. We hope that this project will aid local residents living in the town to do their shopping or to reach those all-important facilities like doctor’s surgery and activities, such as those provided at Eastern Oswestry Community Centre and the Whole Life Centre. We are a local business and very much looking forward to working with the Town Council and providing local people with support”
For young people it is hoped that the bus service will help them to reach social activities in and around the town faster and safer.
A local student said: “I use the bus service because it makes traveling easy and accessible for me and my friends to travel. I feel it will help unify Oswestry as it makes it easier for people to travel into the centre of Oswestry, and will help encourage residents to events, supporting a lively town centre which is exactly what I want to see as a young person living locally. I also see people generally socializing on the bus and having a natter which has got to be a good thing where social isolation is a real issue”
The Mayor of Oswestry Jay Moore said: “We are really pleased to be providing free bus travel in Oswestry on a Saturday. The Town Council hopes that people of all ages will take up this offer and use the free travel that is available to them. A number of events are coming up in Cae Glas Park including Wellness Event and Oswestry Balloon Carnival. Local residents are encouraged to use the free bus service into town on Saturday during these events as well as for everyday activities.”
Tanat Valley buses in partnership with Oswestry Town Council are supporting free bus travel initiative on the Saturday town services 400 (Aston Way – Llys Road), 402 (Balmoral Crescent- Windsor), 403 (Hampton Road Circular),404 (Vyrnwy Drive to Old Fort Road).
Alongside this the Council is looking to discuss the possibility of reconfiguring the existing provision to meet local need and demand and seeking discussion with Shropshire Council in relation to this. This would look at where people are needing to get to, for every-day activities between the town and community facilities and key infrastructure.
