Shropshire Festivals are busy preparing for their sell out drinks’ festival in the Quarry, taking place this Friday, September 30 and Saturday, October 1.
Tickets have already sold out for the Chrisbeon VIP area on Saturday, with just a few VIP tickets remaining for Friday. Standard tickets are still available to purchase from www.shropshireoktoberfest.co.uk.
The huge beer tent will be filled with independent brewers, distillers, and local drinks producers, serving up over 150 ales, lager, cider, perry, wine, gin, rum, fizz and cocktails.
As well as locally made beers from breweries such as Wye Valley Brewery, Three Tuns Brewery and Stonehouse Brewery, there will be some German beer to quaff too. Those wanting something different to a traditional ale or cider can sample 25 gins from around the world at the Gindifferent stand or some locally handcrafted gin and cocktails from the award-winning Shropshire Distillery.
Fibre Heroes are sponsoring the live music stage, and reusable beer cups to reduce plastic waste. On both days the music line-up features lederhosen wearing, Oktoberfest favourite – Vorsprung Durch Oompah on the main stage, and shanty music power house – Old Time Sailors in the Live Lounge.
Friday’s acts also include The Follicles, The Vertigo Band and Lost The Plot. The Saturday music line-up will deliver sets from Longden Calling, Microbaby, Five o’clock Hero, Something 4 The Weekend, Chasing August, The Dirty Rockin Scoundrels, Groove Dynamite, and Ego Friendly. The stage will be hosted by BBC Radio Shropshire’s Paul Shuttleworth.
On Saturday the Besblock Live Lounge will also host a stellar line-up of touring comedians. Taking to the stage is Britain’s Got Talent finalist – Micky P Kerr, former English Comedian of the Year – Josh Pugh, the highly regarded international act – Gordon Southern, the master of mixing punchlines with unpredictable audience interaction – Liam Pickford, and the compere for the night will be stand up Luke Honnoraty – with his stories on life and embarrassing moments.
Festival goers can pick their own music in the silent disco tent, sponsored by Throgmorton Associates Wealth Management, have 5 minutes of fame in Volvo Shrewsbury’s Carpool Karaoke tipi, and sit back with a beer at a long table in the DMOS People seating area.
“Get ready for Shrewsbury’s original, one and only Oktoberfest event,” said Shropshire Festivals’ Director of Fun, Beth Heath. “Once again we’ll provide you and your mates with the best day and evening out in our huge beer tents that stretch across the bottom of the Quarry.
“Expect lederhosen, Oompah, real ales and our big beer hall, plus bands performing singalong favourites, our popular silent disco tent, carpool karaoke, delicious street food, and anyone who’s anyone will be there!
“We are big advocates of independent, local businesses, so there won’t be any mainstream beer at Shropshire Oktoberfest, just the region’s best independent brewers.”
“It’s great to welcome a new sponsor helping to make the event possible. Howdens will be making sure you can lock your house up when you get home with their door challenge!”
Stuart Haynes, Head of Aaron & Partners’ Shrewsbury office, said, “Oktoberfest in Shrewsbury has become a key date in our social calendar. It’s an event that our team really enjoy, but it’s also a fantastic opportunity for us to network with clients and the wider community. We’re looking forward to another brilliant weekend.”
Beth adds, “Look out for our Hopportunity Bar from CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) where they will be pulling their top pints and unusual choices, as well as crowning the best beer at the festival ‘Shropshire’s Choice’. Don’t miss the county’s best party this weekend!”
Shropshire Oktoberfest is on from 5pm until 10pm on Friday, September 30 and from 11am until 10pm on Saturday, October 1. Tickets can be purchased from www.shropshireoktoberfest.co.uk and limited tickets will be available to purchase on the gate on the day of the festival.
