A 20 year-plus partnership between a motor dealer and a cricket club has been further strengthened for the season now underway.
Award-winning Arthurs Vauxhall has been allocated four matches that they will sponsor Cae Glas Cricket Club of the Shropshire Cricket League.
Oswestry-based Arthurs will sponsor matches next month and in August featuring Cae Glas 1st and 2nd X1’s together with a tour fixture.
On July 14 sponsorship is of the 2nd X1, who play in Shropshire’s Division 3 2nd X1 league, away to Market Drayton. The following day it is a Sunday fixture against Grasshoppers of Shrewsbury at Gatacre and on August 16 the game is an away tour fixture at Eastnor, Herefordshire.
The final Arthurs sponsored match for Cae Glas is the 1st X1 at home against Harpers of Newport on August 25.
Said cricketer Nigel Evans who is also the club’s sponsorship officer: “Our relationship with Arthurs of Oswestry goes back more than 20 years and over that time players and officials have enjoyed a lot of Vauxhall cars.
“We are most pleased to receive further sponsorship to support our teams for this season because we can’t exist without the backing of local businesses and Arthurs has been particularly generous over the years for which we are very grateful.”
Said Arthurs Director David Goldthorpe: “We are really proud to be supporting Cae Glas, we wish them great success in the coming season.”
Cae Glas, which was founded in 1952, can claim that Andy Lloyd, ex-England and Warwickshire batsman, started his career with the club, and that a newly capped Australia Test bowler Chadd Sayers who has previously represented the club on tour fixtures.
In the team line-up at Arthurs Vauxhall is left to right Nick Broadbent, life member, Nigel Evans, Joanne Aird, Arthurs Group Digital Marketing and CRM Manager, and Janet Marsden, Cae Glas vice chair and non-playing member.
